The 18th NWAFU College Students’ English Public Speaking Contest Successfully Held

    On the evening of October 8th, the 18th NWAFU College Students’ English Public Speaking Contest was successfully held. Sponsored by Academic Affairs Division and hosted by Department of Foreign Languages, this contest was also the qualification competition for the "FLTRP∙ETIC Cup National English Public Speaking Contest”.

    There were in all 15 contestants in the final, who have successfully stood out of the peers through college preliminary and university preliminary. Themed on " My Big Story in 2019”, the contest consisted of three sessions---prepared speech, unprepared speech and Q & A. In the first session, the contestants brought their imagination to full play that sharing their personal outlook at China and outlining their "Memorabilia in 2049”. From healthy China to space agriculture, from atmospheric environment todevelopment of education, the contestants conquered the judges and audience with their good knowledge of culture, high level of oral proficiency in English, and their rich body language.


Contestants

    Wang Zhijie from Department of Foreign Languages finally took the crown and would take part in the preliminary of "FLTRP∙ETIC Cup National English Speaking Contest” of Shaanxi Province. The second prize winners were Song Yuchen from the same department and Chen Zhuo from College of Food Science and Engineering. The third prize went to Peng Yushan from College of Life Science, He Xiaojuan from College of Innovative Experiment, Yao Fangyao from College of Animal Science, Wang Ruihan from College of Horticulture, and Liu Ruochen from College of Natural Resources and Environment.

    As is known to all, the "FLTRP∙ETIC Cup National English Speaking Contest” was co-sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, National Foreign Languages Teaching Board under the Ministry of Education, National Advisory Committee of on Teaching English Language to Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, and National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education. It is one of the three major national competitions with overwhelming influence in China. The contest held in NWAFU has dramatically inspired the English learners in our university as a stimuli to the students' enthusiasm for learning English. In addition, it provided the university students with a platform to show their talents, exchange ideas, and improve their English language proficiency and critical thinking.
