I Can Operate on Sheep!

On November 14th afternoon, the 4th NWAFU Veterinary Operative Surgery Competition was held in Xiu Shan Activity Center hall. Twelve teams from College of Veterinary Medicine entered into rivalry – they were selected through class recommendation and college training. Their proficient skills attracted lots of audience.
Beijing Centre Biology Co.,Ltd, and Shen Zhen Ruipeng Pet Hospital etc. were invited to the competition; faculty and students from Qinghai University also visited the competition site. Li Jingchun, the Party secretary of College of Veterinary, said, “It is beneficial to incude market¬-related companies into our teaching process – students get to learn market needs and effectively raise their operation capability.”
Mr. Lin from HR Department of Shen Zhen Ruipeng Pet Hospital was full of praise for NWAFUers after observing the competition. “NWAFU students are of high quality and operational ability.”


Operation Underway
 

Competitors were supposed to conduct Sheep rumen surgical operation, including surgical area hair removal, immobilization, anesthetization, skin preparation, surgery, and resuscitation. Competitors’ surgical skills and psychological qualities are emphatically inspected.


Awarding winners
 

Among the twelve teams, Class 126 from College of Veterinary Medicine led by Zhang Kuo won the first prize. “We are very happy and honored. We are grateful for our teachers’ training which allows us to stand here and gain so many valuable experiences.”
Veterinary surgical competition will be held every year, and microorganism skill competition is also on the way. The competitions are to help students develop practical professional skills so as to help them fully prepare for future education, working, or pioneering work.
