Lunar August 15th is the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. Under particular arrangement of International College, 196 international students together with over 40 family members from 23 countries got the chance to experience this awesome cultural event under the round moon on the marvelous Oriental land.
Learning Festival Origin through Story
Stories of Hou Yi shooting the Sun, Goddess Chang's flying to the Moon, jade hare making heavenly medicine, Wu Gang breaking laurel, etc. were presented on PowerPoints, which brought legendary color and charm to this traditional holiday.
Experiencing Holiday Spirit through Traditional Poem
“Thoughts in the Silent Night”, “Prelude To Water Melody” translated by Lin Yutang, together with Faye Wong’s gentle singing, the poems shortened the distance between traditional Chinese culture and our foreign friends. They experienced the wonderful culture of “appreciating the moon under laurel and drinking poems out of wine”, and at the same time expressed their longings for their hometown.
Tasting the Festival
Students from Singapore and Vietnam shared their childhood memories of Mid-Autumn Festival in their hometown. Other students also shared their local Chinese-style Mid-Autumn festival. Expressions may vary, they all reflect people’s love for life and vision for bright future.
