Aimed at fostering students’ scientific thinking ability and innovation spirit as well as gradually popularizing new types of teaching approach such as open video courses and micro-lectures, ten new Extended English courses have been offered by the Department of Foreign Languages at the beginning of this semester.
"A Brief Introduction of Western Civilization”
This course, in time-space order and under specific topics, mainly introduces the emergence and development of western civilization and focuses on the changes and development of western culture and social systems.
"English for Job Hunting”
This course is aimed at improving students’ language and communicative ability in job hunting.
"English Newspaper and Magazine Reading”
This course focuses the language, reading and expression skills, learning strategies and intercultural knowledge in English newspaper and magazine.
"An Introduction to Chinese Culture”
Students will learn the basic knowledge of Chinese culture in English, including China country profile, technology and education, national customs and so on.
"English Practical Writing”
This course introduces the basic knowledge of English practical writing, writing methods and techniques, case text analysis and so on.
"English Public Speaking”
This course introduces how to write English speech draft, and improves students’ ability of oral communication, delivery and critical thinking.
"Foundation to IELTS”
This course covers the four modules in IELTS, IELTS evaluation standards, language and skill requirements of listening, speaking, reading and writing in IELTS.
"Media English---Viewing and Listening”
By the application of modern teaching tools, students will get better understanding of English culture in original work, authentic English expressions and its practical use.
"Intercultural Communication”
This course covers the study of culture, communication, cultural dimension, verbal and nonverbal communication and intercultural communicative barriers.
"Communication Competence and Career Development”
This course mainly covers basic communication knowledge and application of communicative principles in management
