On May 19th, Professor Peng Changhui – one of the National Thousand Talents Recruitment finalists, shared with the students his 30 years’ experience in study and research.

Professor Peng began with writer Liu Qing’s words – “Long as the life road is, critical moments are often only a few, especially when a person is young.”
 
 
Rough Journey of Study
 
Professor Peng specialized in forestry in Central South Forestry University in his early years. In retrospect, he was full of gratitude: “My Alma Mater has trained a large number of talents since its establishment, even in difficult situation. At that moment, college study meant reading and doing exercise only.” He then encouraged everyone to treasure the learning and research resources we have---985 branded NWAFU , campus of Oxford & Cambridge position, air of Canadian quality. It is an amazing place for study.

High Achievement in Climate Research
 
Professor Peng is the founder of TRIPLEX, which has contributed significantly to the researches of global climate change, global terrestrial carbon reservoir and ecological model.
 
Being Excellent Returnee Scholar
Looking back to his experience in research, Professor Peng said: “I made it – having ground my sword for a decade.” He also encouraged the students to dare to question and challenge authority, for the respect to academy and truth. He then shared his 5P principles – “purpose, passion, principle, practice and partner”.

Perseverance and Encouragement
At the report, students were very active to voice their confusions for answers. When asked whether feeling bored in academics after so many years of , Professor Peng said: “I used to feel depressed and confused, too. In 1997, many friends and classmates around had turned to Computer Science from Ecology, which I tried, too. However,I finally realized that it might be finally helpful to me and my family, it was not my interest anyway. Even my daughter suggested me not give up. So, I adhered to my pursuit. “
