Mr. Gao Xiang, born in Shannxi Province in April 1960, is Professor and doctoral mentor.He is a member of the Shannxi Crop Varieties Examining and Approving Committee and the Professional Group of Wheat Varieties Examining and Approving. Currently he serves as the first vice-chairman of the Crop Science Society of Shannxi Province, director of the Crop Science Society of China and Shannxi Society of Agronomy, executive director of Shannxi Life Science Society, Agricultural Adviser of Xianyang City, member of the editorial boards at Acta Agriculturae Boreali-occidentalis Sinia and Journal of Triticeae Crops

Achievements in Scientific Research
He currently undertakes science and technology projects of NDRC、Ministry of Agriculture、Science & Technology Ministry、the Key Research Projects of Shaanxi Province and his scientific research funds has exceeded RMB 5 million.
He has published over 60 academic articles as lead author and corresponding author in Acta Agronomica Sinica、Scientia Agricultura Sinica、Acta Botanica Boreali-Occidentalia Sinica、Acta Agriculturae Boreali-occidentalis Sinia、Journal of Triticeae Crops ,publishing 2 monographs.Up to now,he has obtained 10 ministerial and provincial level rewards.
He has selected and bred 4 wheat varieties-Shaan 253、Shaan 715、Shaan 627、Shaan 538.At the same time, as a cooperator,he has bred Shaan 229、Shaan 213、Shaan 160、Shaan 354、Shaanhan 8675.
Shaan 253, which was bred by him, is a high-quality and strong gluten wheat and is well received by the public.Now it is the main high-quality wheat variety in Shannxi Province. The total area sown to Shaan 253 is over 10 million mu in Huang-Huai wheat production area.
Shaan 253 was rated as one of Ten Agricultural Science Research Achievements of Shannxi Province in 2005. In 2007,“Breeding and Popularization of A New Wheat Variety Shaan 253 with Strong Gluten and High Quality”won the second prize of Shannxi Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
He has also carried out researches on cloning and prokaryotic expression of LMW-GS、HMW-GS、γ-gliadin、ω-gliadin genes from wheat variety Shaan 253 and comes up with a comprehensive quality score system of HMW-GS in wheat flour.
In the field of wheat breeding for disease resistance,he has constructed the identification method and discrimination function of Slow Rusting Cultivars,and was awarded the second prize of Shannxi Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
