II. Research Interests
Utilization of heterosis in rapeseed; Innovation of rapeseed germplasm resources; Identification of molecular markers and Gene mapping for important traits in rapeseed.
III. Academic and Teaching Tasks
Long-term commitment to research work on rapeseed genetics and breeding, and undertake multiple teaching tasks including Germplasm resources for undergraduates and Evaluation and Analysis on Natural resources for master candidates.
Host and execute 6 research projects from National Ministry of Sci-Tech, Ministry of Agriculture, as well as Shaanxi Province .Collect, evaluate and utilize  rapeseed germplasm in Shaanxi Province. Execute morphological and molecular genetic diversity research of Brassica juncea L. in western China. Breed new rapeseed cultivars with high yield, good quality (low erucic acid, low glucosinolates) and disease-resistance. carry out and complete the molecular markers of yellow seed,  fine mapping of yellow seed gene in Yellow mustard of Northern Shaanxi. Search for low erucic acid mutant strains in Yellow mustard of Northern Shaanxi, clone and analyze FAE1 gene controlling the erucic acid content in Yellow mustard of Northern Shaanxi.  .  
Ⅳ.Academic Achievement and Awards
Three new hybrid varieties ofBrassica napus L., shaanyou 16, Shaanyou 0913, and Shaanyou 107, were registered by China Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2010, 2011 and 2012.One new varietyof B. juncea L., Jingyou 1, was registered by Crop Variety Appraisal Committee of Shaanxi Province in 2010.
The work of collection, conservation, evaluation and utilization of crop germplasm resources in China was awarded the first grade of Sciences and Technology Progress Awards by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2003
The work of collection, evaluation and utilization of rapeseed germplasm resources in Shaanxi Province was awarded  the third grade of Sciences and Technology Progress Awards by Agriculture Department of Shaanxi Province in 1999.
V. Publications
 More than 30 scientific papers have been published by Dr. Xu and co-authors in top journals in professional field, such as Acta Agronomica Sinica, Chinese Journal of oil crop, Acte Botanice Boreali-Occidentalia Sinica, Mol breeding ,Genome etc.
