The College of Food Science and Engineering (formerly the Department of Food Science of Northwest Agricultural University) was established in 1984. The college started enrollment of undergraduates and graduates in 1985. In 2000, it was authorized to grant doctor’s degrees. In 2007, post-doctoral research station was founded, and it started to recruit overseas students in 2008. The college has established comprehensive talent cultivation system from undergraduate to doctor’s degree.It is authorized to grant Master’s degrees and Doctoral degrees and has founded the post-doctoral research station in Food Science, which is a first-level discipline. And it has the authority to offer master’s degrees in four second-level disciplines including Food Science, Cereals&Oils and Plant Protein Engineering, Agro-Product Processing &Storage Engineering and Aquatic Product Processing & Storage Engineering.It covers three research areas: Agro-Product Processing &Storage Engineering, Food Safety, Food Nutrition and Health. There are also two engineering master's degree programs in the field of food engineering, and agricultural master's degree in food processing and safety.

  There are currently 133 staff members including 115 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 24 professors (or researchers), 46 associate professors (or associate researchers), 25 doctoral supervisors, 57 master supervisors. Three experts are enjoying the Special Government Allowance, 1 of State Academic Degrees Appraisal Committee, 1 of Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor, 1 in Thousand Talents Program, 4 New Century Excellent Talents, 1 Shaanxi Teaching Master, 1 Shaanxi Three Five Talent,3 Shaanxi New-star Plan of Science and Technology.

  There are 9 national and provincial-level scientific research bases including the National Yangling Agricultural Comprehensive Experimental Engineering Technology Research Center, the Agricultural Products Quality and Safety Risk Assessment Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture (Yangling), and the Food Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture (Yangling). In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 360 scientific research projects, including 162 national and provincial-level projects, 72 horizontal projects, with a total funding of more than 77 million yuan. Teachers and graduate students have published more than 900 academic papers, including 370 papers in SCI, 206 articles in EIand 44 patents has been granted. The research findings have won 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 6 third prizes in science and technology of Shaanxi Province, and 16 scientific and technological achievements awards at various levels.
