III. Teaching Tasks
Long-term commitment to teaching and research work on farming, agro-ecology, undertaken teaching work of Farming, Introduction to Agriculture, Agro-ecology for undergraduates, and Advance of Crop Science, Advanced Farming, Advanced Ecology, Evaluation and Analysis on Natural Resources, Analysis of Ecosystem, etc for master and doctoral candidates.
So far, 15 master students and one doctoral student have completed their study and obtained their degree under the guidance of Dr Liao; Nowadays, 9 master students and 8 doctoral students are studying under the guidance of Dr Liao.
 

Ⅳ.Teaching Awards
Emphasize on Discipline Construction and teaching Research, "Innovation and Construction of Farming Course to Enhance Arid Farming Teaching System” was received the first class of Shaanxi Teaching Achievements (the third winner); the third class winner of Young teachers awarded by Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation in 2002; Responded Agro-ecology course was involved in the Competitive Courses in Shaanxi province in 2007; "Science of farming system” (Associate Editor) was awarded the second class of Excellent Teaching Books of Universities and Colleges in Shaanxi Province in 2007; Responded Agronomy Major was determined Construction Site of Special Major in the Second group; Responded "Innovation Experimental Place for Outstanding Talents Raising Mode of Plant Production Group” was pointed as a "Experimental Place for Innovation of Talents Raising Mode” of Ministry of Education and Shaanxi Province in 2007.

Academic Achievement (at the provincial level and above)
Since 1992, Dr. Liao has engaged in the research and practices of efficient use of rainfall resource in rainfed Farmland of Loess Plateau. He was involved in the "Research on Sustainable Development of Agriculture in Semiarid and Partial Arid Farmland (Hai yuan County) of Southern Ningxia Province” funded by the Dryland Agricultural Technology Cooperation Research Projects of National "Eighth Five-Year Program " and "Ninth Five-Year Program ", "Pilot and Demonstration of Arid Farming Mechanization and Efficient Use Techniques of Precipitation in the Loess Plateau in Shaanxi Province” funded by the " Agricultural Stride Plan” of Ministry of Agriculture in China; directed and completed three projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation, which including "Reclamation and Potential Production Improvement Techniques of Natural Precipitation Resource in Northwest Arid Farmland”, "Research on Farmland Mulching and Micro-catchment Conservation Tillage Techniques in Loess Plateau”, and "Research on Water Consumption and Water Production Potential of Multiple Cropping Patterns in Sub-humid Regions of Loess Plateau”; co-directed sub-project of "Research on Micro-catchment Planting Techniques of Arid Farming Field” supported by ‘863’ Key projects of Water-saving Agriculture; and directing the ongoing projects including "Research on Effects and Modes of Water and Fertilizations of Conservation Tillage Techniques in Apple Orchard of Loess Plateau” funded by National Natural Science Foundation, "Control Mechanisms and Optimization Modes of Agro-ecosystems in Sandy Soils of Mu Us Desert” funded major-project-training funding of Science and Technology Innovation Project of Ministry of Education, "Research on Changing Mechanism of Soil Environment and Technological System of Conservation Tillage Techniques” supported by the program of "New Century Excellent Talents" of Ministry of Education, "Research and Demonstration of Comprehensive Technology Integration for Soil Recycling Production in Guanzhong Plain” and "Research and Demonstration of Conservation Tillage Technology Integration in Hilly Regions of Loess Plateau” supported by ‘Eleventh Five-year’ National Key Technology Support Program, "Key Technology Integration and Mode Demonstration of Drought-relief–type Farming System in Northwest Rainfed Regions”, and project of "Tobacco Fertilization Expert System in Shaanxi Province ” supported by the Key Technology project of Shaanxi Branch of China National Tobacco Corporation.

Academic Awards
The secondary class of National Science and Technology Progress Award for "Regional Governance and Integrated Development in Northern Rain-fed Farmland” in 2001;
The third class of Science and Technology Progress Award in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region for "Research on Stable Planting Systems of Arid Farmlands in Southern Ningxia” in 2001;
The third class of National harvest Awards of Agriculture, Animal husbandry and Fishery Industry for "Mechanization Technology of Impoundment, Water-saving and Water-conservation through Loose-hard- coexistence Farming Practice in arid Farmland ” in 2003;
The third class of Science and Technology Progress Award in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region for "Research on Effective Planting Technology of Rainwater-harvesting and Water-saving in Arid Farmland of Southern Ningxia” in 2007.

Publications & Books
More than 50 scientific papers have been published by Dr Liao and co-authors in Acta Agronomica Sinica, Scientia Agricultura Sinica, Transactions of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering, Journal of Natural Resources, Acta Ecologica Sinica, etc; Edited two books, supervised more than 10 books. Edited work "Efficient Use of Precipitation Resources in Arid Farmland of the Loess Plateau” was received the first class in the 12th Western Regional Excellent Scientific and Technological Books Award in 2004.
