Prof. Neil C. Turner

In semi-retirement, Professor Neil C. Turner holds a position of Adjunct Professor in the UWA Institute of Agriculture and UWA School of Agriculture and Environment at the University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia and Visiting Professor in the Institute of Arid Ecology at Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, China. He has a PhD from the University of Adelaide in South Australia and a BSc and DSc from the University of Reading in the UK. For 31 years he was a research scientist and research leader at CSIRO Plant Industry in Canberra and Perth, Australia. His research interests have focused on dryland agriculture, particularly improving the water use efficiency of dryland crops by both management and breeding. Neil has published 375 papers and book chapters on plant water relations, drought and salinity resistance of crops, and climate change. He has been recognised for his research by being made a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, the Crop Science Society of America, The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, the Australian Institute of Agriculture and the Indian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has been awarded a Medal of the Australian Institute of Agriculture, a Chancellor’s Medal by the University of Western Australia, a Centennial Medal by the Government of Australia, a Dunhuang Medal by the Gansu Provincial Government and a Fellowship Medal by the Government of China for contributions to education, research and economic development.
Dr. Jairo Palta

Dr Jairo Palta completed a PhD in Crop Physiology at La Trobe University, Australia. He was awarded Post-doctoral Fellowships by European Commission to work at the Centre for Arid-Zone Studies at University of Bangor and from US Department of Energy to work at the Lab of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Biology of the University of California. He is Honorary Research Fellow at CSIRO Agriculture & Food based at the Centre for Environment and Life Sciences, in Western Australia. He is also Adjunct Research Professor at the University of Western Australia and Visiting Research Professor at the Institute of Water and Land Conservation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is one of the Editor-in-Chief of Field Crops Research, Consulting Editor for Plant and Soil, Associate Editor for Crop and Pasture Science, Functional Plant Biology and Frontiers of Plant Sciences. Dr. Palta has published over 150 papers in referred journals and as book chapters and is the editor of two books.
