About the Speaker:
Dr. Qin Zhang is the Director of Center for Precision & Automated Agricultural Systems (CPAAS), a Professor of the Biological Systems Engineering Department, Washington State University, and a Fellow of ASABE. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991, his M.S. degree from the University of Idaho in 1987, and his B.S. degree in from ZhejiangAgricultural University in China in 1982. Prior to his arrival at WSU, Dr. Zhang was a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and before joining the faculty at UIUC in 1997, he worked in Caterpillar Inc. as a Senior Research Engineer. Dr. Zhang has focused his teaching and research activities on agricultural mechanization, agriculture automation, and intelligent agricultural machinery. Based on his research outcomes, he has written two textbooks, edited two technical books and three conference proceedings, published over 130 peer reviewedjournal articles, presented over 260 papers at conferences, and has awarded ten U.S. patents. He is currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief for Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, and the Chair for Section III (Plant Production Equipment) of CIGR.
This seminar is mainly talking about the relationship between fundamental research (publish SCI papers) and Industrial application (design machines), and how the SCI papers are important to support the machine design and the research could be sustainable with fundamental research in large extent.
