About the reporter:
Ad de Koning was appointed as scientific researcher Climate and Crop Physiology at the Glasshouse Crops Research Centre in Naaldwijk, the Netherlands. The research on tomato resulted in 1994 in a PhD thesis ‘Development and dry matter distribution in glasshouse tomato: a quantitative approach’. In this period he presented numerous lectures for growers and was regarded as an authority on the growth of greenhouse crops. From 1995 he was head of the Crop Science Department of the same institute. In 1999 he moved to HortiMaX (www.hortimax.com) as Manager Product Development and in 2005 he was appointed as Director R&D of the same company. HortiMaX developed as a major international company in high tech greenhouse control with products named Synopta, MultiMa, Prodrain and CropView. In the last 10 years he and HortiMaX were involved in several research consortia with, among others, Wageningen University.
