Title:Cytoophidia: Snakes in the cell
Speaker: Ji-Long Liu
Time: 10 am November 27, 2015
Venue: E602
Introduction of speaker:
Dr. Ji-Long Liu graduated from Beijing Forestry University in 1992, and then got his master degree in China Agricultural University in 1995 and his doctor degree in Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2000. After that, he worked as a Postdoctor in University of Connecticut (2000-2002)and Carnegie Institution Department of Embryology (2002-2007). During this period, he discovered and named two new subcellular structures in the egg chambers: the histone locus body in the nucleus and the U body in the cytoplasm. Dr. Liu was pointed as a programme Leader in MRC Functional Genomics Unit, University of Oxford in 2007. There he went on identifying novel organelles/subcellular structures in Drosophila and discovered the cytoophidium, the novel organelle/structure containing CTP synthase (CTPS). Recently, he and his group has also made remarkable progresses in developing highly efficient genome engineering technologies in Drosophila. Dr. Liu is a Editorial member of Journal of Genetics and Genomics. He is also a reviewer for some top journals such as Nature, PNAS, Plos Genetics etc.
