Topic 1: The targets of Phytophthora effectors: pressure points to promote disease
Invited speaker: Dr. Paul R. J. Birch(University of Dundee, UK)
Date & Time: Nov. 6th 2015 (Friday) 9:30-10:30 am
Location: South campus scientific research building Room 1202
Paul R. J. Birch is a professor In Division of Plant Sciences, University of Dundee (at the James Hutton Institute). Much of the Birch group's research is focused on the systems biology of microbe-host interactions, with a focus on ‘effector’ proteins that are translocated inside the host cell, in the mechanisms by which they are delivered and the means by which they are regulated in P. infestans. Pual Birch published tens of refereed research papers in world-class journals such as Nature、Plant Cell、PNAS、PLoS Pathogens, New Phytologist、Plant Journal.
Topic 2: Advancing our knowledge of bacterial plant pathogens through genomics: Pectobacterium and Dickeya – A case study
Invited speaker: Ian K. Toth(The James Hutton Institute, UK)
Date & Time: Nov. 6th 2015 (Friday) 10:30-11:30 am
Location: South campus scientific research building Room 1202
Ian K. Toth is a senior scientist of the James Hutton Institute, UK. Much of his current research is focused on molecular bases of pathogenesis in the enterobacterial potato pathogens Pectobacterium atrosepticum and Dickeya species, and the eucalyptus pathogen Pantoea ananatis using functional and comparative genomics and systems biology approaches. Ian K. Toth published tens of refereed research papers in world-class journals such as Nature, PLoS Pathogens, Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, and Annual Review of Phytophathology.
