Introduction:
Prof. Richard K. Volz was educated at the University of Auckland(BA 1979), and Massey University(PhD 1992). Richard is an apple and pear cultivar breeder in Havelock North. His previous experience has been in the areas of apple pomology and tree physiology and more latterly in fruit physiology and post-harvest science. He hopes to bring the skills gained in these areas to that of plant breeding, in the generation and development of new pipfruit cultivars. He enjoys applied and more fundamental aspects of plant science research, and believes that knowledge in both enhances the capability to produce appropriate outcomes in each. He is really interested in understanding the genetic control of important fruit quality traits such as texture and the process of developing new selections into new cultivars and different fruit types. He had got new apple cultivar such as ‘Jazz’、’Smitten’、’T34’、’T129’ and so on. Prof. Volzhad published more than 20 scientific papers.
