Title: Multiple gene modified pig for organ transplantation

Speaker: Dengke Pan, PhD

Time: AM 9:30-11:30, July 7, 2015

Venue: Meeting room 107, College of Animal Science and Technology

Introduction:

Dengke Pan is an associate professor in the Institute of Animal Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He is famous for his pioneering work of producing the first somatic cloned pig in China. Development of humanized pigs for organ transplantation is his main goal. Dr. Pan optimized somatic cell nuclear transfer, transgenic technology, genome editing and embryo chimera in pig. His group obtained many achievements. α1,3-galactosyl transferase gene konckout (GTKO) pigs were produced, which could overcome hyperacute rejection when xenotransplantation. GTKO pig-to-monkey liver transplantation was conducted, and Monkey survived for 14 days, the international longest surviving time record. Multiple gene modified pigs had been generated. Genetically-modified pigs is potential sources of islet, heart , liver and kidney for human organ transplantation.
