Seminar: Regulation of mosquito metabolism by hormones
Speaker:Prof. Zhen Zou
Time:2:30 pm May 29 (Friday)
Location: conference room, building 6B 3rd floor, College of Plant Protection
About the Speaker:Dr. Zou received his Ph.D. degree in Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, Oklahoma State University (2005) and then move to work in Oklahoma State University and University of California-Riverside as a postdoctoral fellow. He worked at University of California-Riverside as an assistant researcher from 2010 to 2012. He came back to China in 2012 as a scholar of "One Thousand Youth Talents Scheme”. Now he is the group leader of Insect Immunity and Development Group of Institute of zoology, CAS. Dr. Zou had studied in insect development and immunity for more than ten years. Using a series of approaches of genomics, molecular biology, and cellular biology, he revealed the mechanism of regulation of phenoloxidase activating system, and the role of melanization in the immune response against pathogens and parasites. His current research interest focuses on understanding (1) the molecular basis of events in the mosquito reproduction cycle linked to a blood meal and pathogen transmission, (2) the role of melanization response in antifungi defense, (3) the physiological, biochemical and molecular adaptation of parasitoid wasp to it hosts.
