College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering

The College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering (CWRAE) is one of the colleges with the longest history in the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU), which is developed from the Shaanxi Provincial Water Conservancy Specialty Class founded by modern water conservancy expert Mr. Yizhi Li in 1932. The NWAFU was established in 1999, and the new CWRAE (as well as Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Science) was founded by combining the old CWRAE of the Northwest Agricultural University and the Northwest Institute of Water Resources Science of Ministry of Water Resources.

The college has over 200 faculty and staff members, and has doctoral degree programs and post-doctoral research stations in two first-level disciplines: agricultural engineering and water conservancy engineering, master degree program in one first-level discipline: civil engineering, and one professional master degree program in civil and water conservancy engineering, among which the agricultural soil and water engineering is a national key discipline. There are five undergraduate majors, which has cultivated more than 20,000 professional and technical talents at various levels since the college established, and there are three alumni have become academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The college has many important science and technology innovation research and social service platforms, including but not limited to: the crop high-efficiency water use national engineering laboratory, the agricultural soil and water engineering in arid and semiarid areas key laboratory of Ministry of Education, the crop high-efficiency water use key laboratory of Ministry of Agriculture, the Northwest water conservancy science research institute experiment center of Ministry of Water Resources, the water-saving irrigation experiment center of Shaanxi Province, the water engineering safety and construction research center of Shaanxi Province, the water conservancy engineering quality inspection center of Shaanxi Province, the northwest water conservancy engineering consulting Co., Ltd., and the northwest of water conservancy and hydropower construction survey and design institute. There are one national experimental teaching demonstration centers in agricultural soil and water engineering, two provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers in surveying and mapping, and electrotechnics, and one provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching center in agricultural soil and water engineering. In addition, we host two academic journals.

Actively international cooperation has been conducted to expand domestic and international cooperation and communication space, especially the One Belt and One Road countries. More than 400 persons from more than 60 delegations over 20 countries and regions have exchanges and cooperation with us, and some of them have established stable relationships, including but not limited to: China Agriculture University, Wuhan University, Hohai University, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, and Farmland Irrigation Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

New era, new journey. The college will continue to adhere to the spirit of “dedication, responsibility, truth-seeking and innovation”, forge ahead, constantly improve the quality of personnel training, improve the level of disciplines, serve the national major strategies, and make greater contributions to the Double First-class Construction of the University.
