　　Northwest A&F University is one of key construction universities of the "985” and "211” projects directly under the Ministry of Education. College of Grassland Agriculture of Northwest A&F University is the higher education and scientific research center engaged in grassland agriculture. The college has an undergraduate, master's and doctoral training system and scientific research team on grass science, which is the key discipline of State Forestry Administration of China as well as Shaanxi province. 

　　2. Grassland science Major Introduction

　　Northwest A&F University is one of the earliest universities which carry out education and research on grassland science. In 1942, Professor Wang Dong, the founder of modern grassland in China, pioneered the teaching and research of forage science in our university. In 1986, we began to train graduate students of forage science. We enrolled the first undergraduate students and the first postgraduate students majoring in grassland science in the year of 2000 and 2004, separately. Afterwards, the Ministry of Education of China approved the enrollment of the first doctoral students of grassland science in 2007. Grassland science was approved as a discipline to the doctorate authorization point in 2011 and ranked third (B+) in the 2017 National Discipline Assessment. And it is also the key area for construction to be the first-class discipline of China’s "double-class” universities. At present, it has formed three distinct disciplines: forage germplasm innovation and abiotic stress biology, grassland ecological theory and technology in arid regions, theory and technology of forage cultivation -pasture - livestock in the loess area.

　　Grassland Science is a multidisciplinary field where China grassland programme takes you to an exciting journey throughout China. It highlights the importance of germplasm innovation and stress biology of forage and turfgrass, ecological theory and technology of grassland in arid area, and the theory and technology of herbage cultivation and herbage and livestock coupling in Loess area. It introduces you classifications and breeding of high-quality forage and turfgrass, as well as ecological construction of grassland. And we teach you the practices in forage and turf establishment, breeding new varieties of good forage and turfgrass. The variety of subjects within grassland science allows you to choose the selection of studies that best suit your ambitions.
