College of Mechanical & Electronic Engineering (CMEE) is one of the relatively long history colleges in our university. CMEE setup a major of Agricultural Mechanization and started to recruit undergraduate students in 1946, established independently a department in 1956, and began to recruit graduate students in 1978. This college was established in 1996.
Currently the CMEE has five departments, namely Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic information Engineering, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, and Vehicle Engineering. The CMEE also has 5 undergraduate majors, namely Mechanical Design/Manufacturing and Automation, Agricultural Mechanization and Automation, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Electronics and Information Engineering, and Vehicle Engineering. Among them, the Agricultural Mechanization and Automation is the National and Provincial double first-class specialty, and Mechanical Design/Manufacturing and Automation is a famous major in Shaanxi Province. Moreover, the CMEE has a postdoctoral research program station, a doctoral degree program in Agricultural Engineering and a master degree program in Mechanical Engineering. The doctoral degree program includes 3 disciplines, namely Agricultural Mechanization Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Environment and Energy Engineering, and Agricultural Electrification and Automation, which are key disciplines of Shaanxi Province. The master degree program includes 7 disciplines, namely Agricultural and Biological Environment and Energy Engineering, Agricultural Electrification and Automation, Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, and Vehicle Engineering.
The CMEE has a Key Laboratory of Agricultural Internet of Things, a fully mechanized research base for apples, a Northern Scientific Observation and Experiment Station for Agricultural Equipment, a Western Scientific Observation Experiment Station for Rural Development and Utilization of Renewable Energy, a Northwest Station of Biogas Product and Equipment Quality Inspection Center, a Northwest Rural Biogas Technology Innovation and Demonstration Base, and a Northwest Rural Energy Technical Training Center established by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Area, together with Agricultural Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center, and a Key Laboratory of Agricultural Information Perception and Intelligent Service of Shaanxi Province, Rural Biogas Training School of Shaanxi Province, Yangling International Academy of Modern Agriculture and other research, and extension platforms. Under the guidance of Academician Xiwen Luo, the Academic Dean, three disciplines and 10 research teams have been formed, such as dry farming machinery and preparation, key technologies and equipment of precision agriculture, and comprehensive utilization of biomass, etc.
There are totally 68 laboratories for major fundamental and application experiments, with laboratory area of 8390 square meters, the equipment and device of 4100 pieces, and a total equipment cost of more than 60 million RMB, so as to provide excellent conditions for the high-quality personnel training and scientific research.
There are totally 146 faculty members and staffs, including 16 professors, 47 associate professors, with 21 Ph. D student supervisors, 17 master degree student supervisors, 1 lecture professor of "Changjiang Scholars" and 1 national youth talent program from the Ministry of Education, 2 young experts for ministry-level outstanding contributions, 1 professor for "Excellent talent support program of Ministry of Education", 1 professor for "Three-five talents" of Shaanxi Province, 1 professor for "Hundred talent program" of Shaanxi Province, and 5 professors received special government allowances from State Department, 1 person in the "Youth Outstanding Talent Support Plan", and 1 person in the "May 4th Youth Medal" of Shaanxi Province.
There are 1,909 students in the CMEE, including 1,616 undergraduates, 233 master degree students, and 60 Ph. D students. In recent 75 years, more than 15,000 students have been trained and graduated by this college. The students received the second prize in the National Electronic Design Contest for undergraduate students, National "Challenge Cup" Scientific Research contest for undergraduate students, won more than 80 awards in the "Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition", "Student Advanced Drawing Technology Contest" and other competitions. The college has established the industry, academia, and research consortium with more than 40 large enterprises. The graduates have received praises by the community with the stable employment rate of 96%, and students' employment advanced college from the school for 11 consecutive years. The ratio of recruited graduate students with recommended admissions, entering exams and going abroad to the total reached 29%, showing an increasing trend.
In recent years, the CMEE has undertaken more than 180 research projects from State, Ministries or Provincial authorities, including National Natural Science Foundation, the National "863" programs, the State "Support Plan" programs, "948" programs, National Key Scientific and Industrial Engineering programs. The CMEE also received 22 awards at provincial and ministerial levels, more than 200 national patents (including 100 invention ones), published more than 50 books/textbooks, and more than 2000 papers (including 430 SCI/EI papers). The CMEE has formed a characteristic research in developing dry farming equipment, intelligent control of agricultural equipment, digital agriculture and agricultural information technology, bio-energy conversion and utilization of biological materials. The developed six series and more than 40 kinds of dry farming equipment have been widely used in the western provinces and the country, which have made a positive contribution to the development of modern agriculture in Shaanxi Province.
The CMEE has actively developed the friendly relationships and academic exchanges at home and abroad, hosted more than 20 important international and domestic academic conferences, invited more than 200 domestic and foreign professors and experts to give lectures, research seminars and academic exchanges, accepted or trained 7 foreign students, and sent faculty members to abroad for visiting and studying with an increasing trend every year.
The CMEE actively develops friendly relations and academic exchanges at home and abroad, and has been approved as one of the first batch of Rural Revitalization Talent Training Projects of the Chinese Scholarship Commission, one of the national key R & D program intergovernmental cooperation projects, and one of the EU International Exchange Project (UNICAC). It has hosted more than 20 international and domestic important academic conferences, invited more than 180 foreign professors and experts to give lectures and academic exchanges, trained 7 foreign students, and sent more and more people abroad as students, vising scholars, and visitors with an increasing trend year by year.
The CMEE is rooted in the birthplace of Chinese agricultural civilization, and has been closely connected with the development of Chinese society and has always served the agricultural modernization of China for more than 75 years. The college pursues science and excellence, trains a large number of talents, and makes positive contributions to promoting agricultural mechanization and modernization in China.
