College of Forestry (Academy of Forestry) is the important incubator for high-level talent education and scientific research of forestry. Over 80 years’ development, the College has become one with three grand disciplines covering agronomy, science, and engineering  in harmony with development of hierarchic programs ranging from bachelor, master to doctoral degrees.

There are currently 188 staff members, of whom 33 are professors and 64 are associate professors. There are 25 doctoral supervisors and 70 master supervisors, with two part-time academician, two state "thousand-talent plan” professors, one professor winning the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, and one national model teacher. Two teams won the Award of Innovative Group granted by the Ministry of Education. The College also won one national elite course with two provincial outstanding teachers and two provincial master teachers. A rational teachers’ structure with respect to its professional title, age, education qualification and graduation universities is gradually coming into being. The College is authorized to provide four undergraduate programs of bachelor degree----forestry, forest protection, chemical engineering of forest products and wood science and engineering in associate with 17 laboratories. A post-doctor station is authorized in forestry and two first level disciplines---forestry and ecology have the authorization to grant doctoral degrees granted; and forest engineering of the first-level discipline is qualified to award master degrees, together with the right to grant professional master degree in forestry.

The College owns the Key Laboratory of Western Environment and Ecological Research supported by the Ministry of Education; Key Silviculture Laboratory on Loess Plateau supported by State Administration of Forestry; Qinling National Forest Ecosystem Research Station; Northwest Nature Reserve Conservation Research Center supported by State Administration of Forestry; Shaanxi Key Comprehensive Laboratory of Forestry; Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Economic Plants Development& Utilization; Shaanxi Forestry Research Center; and the Sci-tech Innovation Platform of Northwest Forest Ecosystem Protection and Management supported by the State "985 Program”. To date, there are twelve such research platforms together at the provincial and university level support. Besides, there are some extension and social service stations affiliated to the College, that is, Shanyang Walnut Experiment and Demonstration Station, Qinjian Chinese Date Experiment and Demonstration Station, Fengxian Chinese Red Pepper Experiment and Demonstration Station, Zhen’an Chestnut Experiment and Demonstration Station and Ankang North-subtropical Fruit Trees Experiment and Demonstration Station, Longxian Walnut Experiment and Demonstration Base and Huanglong Walnut Experiment and Demonstration Base. Aand Two bases for field teaching and practice---Wei River Experiment Station and Yangling Nursery. Journal of Northwest Forestry University and Journal of Shaanxi Forest Science and Technology are managed and issued by the College.

Over the past years, the College has accomplished over 300 scientific projects covering "863 program”(a national program initiated in 1986 with the aim of keeping track of hi-tech advancement in the world), "973 program” ( a national program initiated in 1997 with the focus on the development of national key basic researches), projects of national natural science foundation, national sci-tech back-bone programs, national special projects for the sector public benefits and provincial or ministerial projects. Over 300 paper publications are included in the Science Citation Index, SCI, together with over 120 monographs or textbooks published and about 160 scientific achievements obtained. The College has made great advancement and taken a leading position domestically in the fields of dry resistant afforestation, ecosystem restoration in the loess plateau, climate change in relation to the response of forest ecosystem, tree mycorrhiza in relation to stress tolerance, sustained control and prevention of major forest pest and diseases. Significant progress has also been made in the fields of tree genetic breeding and fine cultivar selection as well as the cultivation techniques for high-yield production, regarding poplar, Chinese pine, walnut, chestnut, Chinese date, Chinese red pepper, Eucommia (Du-zhong, in Chinese language), Kernel-apricot and bio-energy resources research. All these achievements provided a forceful support to and played a significant role in the national ecological environment construction and social-economic development.

In the new era, the College will further promote the tradition, deepen the reform and carry out all-around talent-based development strategy with the discipline development and innovative talent cultivation as the focus, and would integrate the education, research and social service together to contribute more to the national ecological environment construction and the sustainable development of forestry.
