I.General history
College of Forestry (Academy of Forestry) is one of the colleges with longest history and traditions in the university. It can be dated back to 1934 when it was a forestry group within the National Northwest Junior College of Agriculture and Forestry. In 1999, new College of Forestry within Northwest A&F University was established on the basis of amalgamation of formerly different institutes ---- Northwest College of Forestry, Shaanxi Academy of Forestry, Northwest Botanical Institute as well as Qinling-Bashan Institute of Northwest Agricultural University. Over 80 years’ development, the College has become one with three grand disciplines of agronomy, science and engineering in harmony with development of hierarchic programs ranging from bachelor, master to doctoral degrees. There are currently 196 faculty and staff members, of whom 39 are professors and 83 are associate professors; 23 are doctoral supervisors and 57 master supervisors.
II. Research and innovation platforms
The College owns eleven research or innovation platforms---Key Laboratory of Silviculture on Loess Plateau supported by State Administration of Forestry and Grassland; Key Laboratory of Forest Biology Disaster Control in the West of China supported by State Administration of Forestry and Grassland; Qinling National Forest Ecosystem Research Station; Northwest Nature Reserve Conservation Research Center supported by State Administration of Forestry and Grassland; Jujube Engineering Research Center supported by State Administration of Forestry and Grassland; Sichuan Pepper Engineering Research Center supported by State Administration of Forestry and Grassland; Propagation and Protection Engineering Center for Old and Famous Trees supported by State Administration of Forestry and Grassland; Shaanxi Key Comprehensive Laboratory of Forestry; Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Economic Plants Development& Utilization; Shaanxi Forestry Research Center; Sci-tech Innovation Platform of Northwest Forest Ecosystem Protection and Management supported by the State "985 Program”.
III. Programs for international students 
With the construction of first class disciplines as the core and innovative education as the goal, the College is striving for an advanced research-centered college characterized with its outstanding specialties. At present, the College has been authorized to offer master or doctoral programs as follows for international students.


IV.  Key fields of research 

College’s scientific research is centered on the national strategic demands, cutting-edge development of forestry, university’s overall planning of disciplines and college’s own advantages. The following are the key fields:

● Forest vegetation restoration and sustainable management
● Forest biodiversity protection and pest control
● Global climate change and ecosystem response 
● Eco-information and forest ecosystem services
● Wood-based biomass resources and efficient utilization
V. International cooperation and exchange
The College has established cooperative relationships with over 20 universities abroad regarding education and academic exchange. Since 2017, the College has been authorized to admit internationals students through Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFnet). The College is the only of its kind in Asia in partnership with MSc in European Forestry Erasmus Mundus. The College owns two international platforms funded by the University---Sino-Austrian Research Center for Environmental Protection and University Eucommia Institute.
