Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the filing and approval results of undergraduate majors in general colleges and universities in 2019. One out-of-catalog major “Food Nutrition and Health” and three filing majors “Data Science and Big Data Technology”, “Tea Science” and “Animal Pharmacy” declared by our university were all approved and established. So far, the total number of undergraduate majors in NWAFU has reached 71. At the same time, NWAFU has also become the first university in China to set up the major of Food Nutrition and Health.

The major of Food Nutrition and Health cultivates the professional compound talents with food nutrition and health theory, information science knowledge and engineering technology to achieve the interdisciplinary and integrated development, with characteristic advantages of new agricultural science, and in line with the development direction of “Four Major Missions” of university discipline construction.

The major of Data Science and Big Data Technology cultivates compound talents who are systematically trained in big data thinking literacy, big data modeling, big data mining, big data programming, big data platform and tools, etc., which is helpful to promote the cross integration of traditional specialty of NWAFU as well as new big data technology, and the construction of “Double First Class” of the university.

The major of Animal Pharmacy cultivates compound talents with the abilities of research and development, production management, quality inspection, veterinary drug residue analysis and clinical application of new veterinary products, which is conducive to the further improvement of the discipline construction and personnel training of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in our university, providing strong support for the discipline development of our university, and facilitating the practice of “New Agricultural Science”.

The major of Tea Science cultivates outstanding innovative and compound practical talents who can engage in tea science-related teaching, scientific research, promotion, operation and management in the fields or departments of modern agriculture, industry, commerce and trade. It is the need to promote the construction of first-class disciplines and specialties in horticulture and serve the national “Belt and Road” strategy.

It is reported that in 2019, universities across the country added 1672 registered majors, 181 approved majors (including 130 state-control distribution majors and 51 out-of-catalog new majors), adjusted 47 majors of degree-granting category or length of schooling, and revoked 367 majors. .

The four newly added undergraduate majors are the significant measures taken by NWAFU to actively lay out the majors related to the development of national key industries and strategic emerging industries and to improve the ability of personnel training. Next, the university will take the “Double Ten Thousand Plan” and “Four New” major construction of national first-class major as an opportunity to strengthen the construction of new majors and lead to the overall improvement of the University's professional construction level and talent training ability.
