Visiting Veterinary College of Murdoch University    Liu Mengjia

Blue sea, clear sky, vast land, and advanced farm economy are my general impression on Australia during my one-week life here. I felt flattered when teachers from Murdoch University and NWAFU arranged the visit to Veterinary College particularly for me, as I was the only one majoring in the subject. The visit benefited me a lot. I was motivated by the disparity between China’s veterinary technology and Australian motivated.

Veterinary science in Murdoch University is matchless in Australia. Their specimen room I think is the most distinctive.

First, all immersed specimens are smell-less. Specimens are sealed in transparent oblong plastic box according to their sizes. They are light and can be easily lifted and observed from any angle.
Second, all specimens are exquisitely made.

Third and the most important, all specimens are made for the sake of students’ convenience.

Besides, I viewed many animal specimens that I had never seen before - snake’s bone, whale’s kidney, turtle’s viscus, kangaroo’s embryo, etc. - which largely broadened my view.

The visit to Murdoch University made me realize the difference and gap between veterinary science in Chinese and Australian education. But I believe, with our persistence and hardwork, our veterinary science will be world-class, our veterinary experts will be top-rank, and our veterinary discipline will be the mainstay of animal production.

A Lovely Week in Murdoch University    Song Siyu

The one-week visiting at Murdoch Universitysoon came to an end. Though short, it leaves me life-long impact.

One week in Murdoch made me strongly sense the difference between Chinese-style and Australian-style learning. After some time I gradually got used to the teaching approach, that I could understand and follow the teacher in class, and was accustomed to the status of raising questions any time.

What matters most during this visit is the process of our English improvement and transition of our rigid thinking. We are looking forward to the unknown amazement in the future weeks and I undoubtedly believe this is going to be the most valuable fortune of my university life.

An Inspiring Critical Thinking Class    Li Jiayao

Teachers of Murdoch University never like unilateral teaching.Rather, they love students’ involvement and feedback. Lindy is a Doctor of social education. She is one of the most enthusiastic teachers we have these days. You can always hear her delightful laughing.

Part 1: Answering student’s question
What do you think of Chinese students?

A: Chinese students are hard-working all the time. You always think working hard can make up everything! I have a Chinese student who always says "I’ll work harder” whenever I talk with her about an assigned task, and I always replies to her, "No, you won’t work harder, because you are always the most hard-working student! It is not what you need. Instead, you needto find a new way of thinking which enables you stand out from the crowd. You need to find your uniqueness.”

Part 2: Critical Thinking
Lindy gave us some jigsaw assignments, and then pointed out that critical thinking needs thorough thinking, analysis, and judgment. Then she showed us a Chinese student’s example, in which the student said he would make many references in his thesis, but his supervisor encouraged the student to have his own idea.

Teacher’s passion and class participation impressed us deeply. This is real interactive teaching. As a passively-intaking student, after this class, I began to understand the importance of independent thinking.
