Title: Translational Control of Plant Immunity

Speaker: PhD. Guoyong Xu

Time: 9:00-11:00, June 5

Location: Room 104, International Exchange Center, Northwest A&F University

Biography:

Dr. Guoyong Xu received his B.S. degree in Biology from Nankai University in 2007 and his Ph.D degree in Biology from Tsinghua University in 2012. Under the supervision of Dr. Yule Liu at Tsinghua University, he mainly investigated the roles of organelle homeostasis and autophagy in plant defense and published those studies in the journals New Phytologist, The Plant Journal, and Autophagy. Then he joined Dr. Xinnian Dong’s lab at Duke University for postdoc research. In Dr. Dong’s lab, he initiated a new project to study translation and revealed that translational reprogramming is a fundamental layer of immune regulation in plants. Based on those theoretical findings, he took advantages of uORF-mediated translational control mechanisms and achieved a broadly applicable strategy for enhancing plant disease resistance with minimal fitness penalty. These two papers have been published by Nature side-by-side.
