Prof.Zhang Yong’s Team Makes New Achievements of Gene Editing

Author: Li Yanfang Date:2017-02-23

Prof.Zhang Yong’s team from College of Veterinary Medicine at NWAFU utilized CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology to cultivate NRAMP1 gene editing tuberculosis resistance cattle. The relevant research results were published online in Genome Biology on February 1st in2017. Doctoral student Gao Yuanpeng, from College of Veterinary Medicine, was the first author of the paper, with Prof.Zhang Yong as corresponding author.

The research utilized an improved CRISPR-Cas9 system to insert the tuberculosis resistance NRAMP1 gene at a selected target site in the cattle genome, successfully obtaining transgenic cattle with increased resistance to tuberculosis through somatic cell nuclear transfer.

Previously, Prof.Zhang Yong’s team had created zinc-finger nickases and TALE nickases- mediated gene editing technology, cultivating lysostaphin gene editing mastitis-resistant dairy cattle and SP110 gene editing anti-tuberculosis dairy cattle respectively, the research results of which were published in Nature Communications(2013)and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences(2015).
