Time: 3:00 PM on May 2, 2018 (Wednesday)

Venue: E321 meeting room, Building of the College of science

Introduction:
Dr. Xuewei Liu is a professor from Division of Chemistry & Biological Chemistry, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, College of Science of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He received his PhD in chemistry from University of Southern California (Supervisor: Prof Charles E. McKenna). He has obtained many awards and honors, including First Place Award, The 2nd NTU-ICES (A*STAR) Joint Science Program (2016), Young Researcher Award, SPMS (2009) and so on. Up to now, He has published about 140 research papers, including Nature Communications, JACS, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Materials, Chemical Society Review.

Abstract:
This lecture will present our recent advances in carbohydrate chemistry and glycobiology with emphasis on conceptually new strategies and tactics to illustrate our contribution to this field. Specifically, this talk will cover the acceptor-controlled glycosylation and protection-less glycosylation for oligosaccharide synthesis, and dual native chemical ligation (dNCL) for glycoprotein synthesis. I will present to you an easy access to peptidoglycans, which are used for metabolic labeling of bacteria. I would also like to share with you the glycomaterials that we developed to explore and exploit carbohydrate-lectin interactions in the context of biological events.
