Brief introduction to the speaker:

Professor Yue is a Professor in Geotechnical Engineering at Department of Civil Engineering, The University of Hong Kong. He received both BSc and MSc degrees’ education in earthquake and geology at Peking University from 1979 to 1986, and PhD degree’s education in civil/geotechnical engineering at Carleton University from 1988 to 1992, one-year Post Doctor Fellow experience at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) from 1992 to 1993. Prior to joining HKU in Dec. 1999, Dr. Yue had a total of nine years industrial working experience with Halcrow China Ltd. in Hong Kong, NRC’s Institute for Research in Construction in Ottawa, or the Ministry of Urban and Rural Construction and Environmental Protection of China in Beijing. He has made more than 400 publications and two USA/China patents. He has given more than 500 invited lectures/seminars at more than 100 conferences and more than 100 institutions worldwide. He has received some prestigious awards including the Excellent Contributions Award from International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics in 2008, and Canadian Government Laboratory Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) in 1992.  He chaptered as a Professional Engineer in Hong Kong in 1998 and Canada in 1995.
